Medium Format in Banff, AB, on expired film

I am continuing to post the Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

October 2024. I was speaking at an electricity industry conference, Grid Forward, held at the Banff Centre for Creativity and Arts

I managed to snag a couple of hours there to take some photos in and around Banff, towards Lake Louise, and the nearby Vermillion Lakes. My colleague from the office, Faran, came along for a couple of these as navigator in the rental car and camera wrangler, as I swapped from film (Hasselblad) to digital (Nikon D850), and switched lenses.

All these were taken with a Hasselblad 500 C/M and I think all with the Carl Zeiss Planar 80mm          f2.8 lens, on expired  Fuji Acros ii Neopan 100 ASA film.

I love how most of these images turned out (the Good).  However, there is clearly a visible cast over these (the Ugly), and I’m unsure what the cause is.  I semi-stand developed in Rodinal, which I have done before, to good effect.  Given the developer is mostly used up with this method, I used water for the stop bath.  Maybe it’s the fixer that has been exhausted? I don’t think it’s the film because it’s expired; I have had no problems in the past with the other rolls from this block of film. Maybe it’s the airport scanner? I usually ask for hand inspection of my film when passing through airport security, though I may have forgotten on the way through YUL.  Whatever the cause, it has affected the images.  The good news is that I also shot digitally, those shots can be found here.

Lake Louise:

On the road to Lake Louise, we came across an ultra large format (ULF) set-up.  I posted this image on a Facebook group for large-format photography and found out that this is a well-known ULF artist Bill Hao, whose story and art can be seen here.
