Peggy’s Cove, Halifax and Digby

Mid-June 2024 brought me to Nova Scotia on business, and I had the opportunity for another photowalk with my friend Ross Johnson. Upon arrival in Halifax, and after my first meeting, a break in the schedule before a working dinner gave us the chance to zip over to Peggy’s Cove.  And while we did not have enough time to wander about the village, we did go out to the lighthouse to snap some shots of the shore, the lighthouse, and of Ross taking long exposures on his Nikon D850.

These were shot using the Hasselblad 500 C/M and Ilford HP4 + film, shot at 125 ASA, developed with Rodinal, and scanned on an Epson V850 using Silverfast software.

The lighthouse, with and without an ND1000 filter, to slow things down.

Ross snapping some great shots, also using an ND1000 filter, but using a really nice digital camera, that, we found out, can use all my Nikon lenses...

Upon return to Halifax, we walked the waterfront on the way to the dinner that evening and caught some of the sights.  This was my first time trying a new (to me) film, Catlabs X Film 320 Pro, a film I decided to try after reading the always-informative review of Alex Luyckx. Rodinal was also the developer I used for this film.

The warship is, Ross tells me, a WWII corvette called the HMCS Sackville, which was the basis for the CGI ship in the 2020 Tom Hanks movie Greyhound.

My next stop was Digby, where I was moderating a panel at a conference.  Staying at the Digby Pines Resort, a beautiful spot, the gardens are spectacular.

This tree is apparently lit-up as part of their Christmas decorations, but even unadorned, its quite the sight.

I also shot two rolls of colour film but have not yet had the time to develop them, so there my be a future blog with additional images from this trip.
